The Heart of Learning

October 6, 2011 — As a young teacher working in an urban Cleveland neighborhood in the early 70s, I quickly learned that all my creative ideas for teaching rigorous academic subjects were not enough. I needed to also have the capacity to connect with my students and create a sense of community in the classroom.

Do You Have Your Dialogue License?—Feb. 11, 2010

This morning I was driving to work behind a “student driver” car going exactly the speed limit (which is to say, at least 15 mph slower than traffic usually moves on that particular road).  I started to get impatient, but then I thought I’d try to use the time to notice things around me, breathe, be mindful, and all of that.
