Women Hold Up Half the Sky in Liberia

July 28, 2011 — How can promoting the healing of women help restore community in a country recovering from civil war?

This question is at the core of the collaboration between the Public Conversations Project (PCP), four Liberian partner organizations, and Mediators Beyond Borders (MBB). The pilot project, “Women Hold Up Half the Sky,” aims to promote healing by tapping into women’s ability to make change at the community level.

In summer 2008, eighteen Nigerian conflict resolution professionals, representing diverse ethnic and religious communities in their home country, came to Boston to participate in an intensive training program in conflict prevention, management, and resolution.  The Public Conversations Project was invited to provide a training on dialogue for the program, which was hosted by the Graduate Program in Dispute Resolution at UMass Boston.
