Nigerians Look to End Religious, Ethnic Divides: Young leaders learn dialogue skills from nonprofits in UMass Boston exchange: What can young Nigerian leaders do about the deep and sometimes violent divides between Muslims and Christians in their country? The answer for some is dialogue.

Reaching Across the Divide: Can We?: Obama's call to listen, heal, unite requires people to build skills: On November 4, President‐elect Barack Obama emphasized uniting the country, bridging divides, and helping people see past their differences. To achieve this, both he and his supporters must carry out his promise to “listen to you, especially when we disagree.” But, how many citizens have the specific skills required to have a constructive conversation with someone with whom they disagree?

Energy Policy Must Reconcile Values Across Security, Economics, and the Environment, Energy Leaders Assert: The Public Conversations Project, in tandem with Viewpoint Learning, designed and facilitated a workshop that brought together twenty-five leaders from academia, government, and the private sector to discuss energy policy. The workshop surfaced key issues and resulted in multiple recommendations for action.

Obama appoints Public Conversations Project staff to labor dispute panel: Project Manager and Associate Mary Jacksteit has been appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as Chair of the Federal Service Impasses Panel (FSIP.) The FSIP’s parent agency, the Federal Labor Relations Authority, oversees collective bargaining in the federal government sector where employees have the right to organize, and unions may negotiate collective bargaining agreements with federal agencies. Mary will continue to work with PCP, including assisting the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.
